April 25 - Business

Continue to prepare the belated print edition of the January 2011 21st-Century Music by importing pictures, place two more items in the June 2011 blog version (sadly noting the death of Joan Peyser, and a happier celebration of Gunther Schuller), and compose page three of Psalm 54 before blitzing out to Diablo in a late-season drizzle, clearing before arriving for a viewing of part of Philip Glass's Koyaanisqatsi, followed by a bit on 12-tone, serialism, and minimalism (probably should have put aleatory in there as well) -- and a dictation of the Glass Einstein on the Beach: Bed, looking towards scheduling student teaching.

Afterwards in the lab, recording Henry Miller in Brooklyn: XII. Ballad of Past Lovers, XIII. Pregnancy Ballad, and XIV. Ballad of the Difficult Life, plus Psalm 52.  Back home, just miss Harriet, who is off to one of the last rehearsals for La Traviata, which opens Thursday.

Prepare and post pdf of Interrupted Interludes: II. Rod Song at IMSLP, transfer over Deploration Passacaglias (Op. 43) and the February 1995 issue 20th-Century Music from PC to MacBook, and bring the Camino Real: Block 7 video to 4:45.

January 1 - Happy New Year, Anyway!

Wake up to more gray skies, and tempted to head south, but, upon checking the weather reports, doesn't look too auspicious in Southern California, either, for the next couple of days, so a strategy for averting Seasonally Affected Depression is activity: art, scholarship, and utilitarianism -- editing the rest of Diabolic Variations: XIII, finishing the composition of Psalm 45 (3 pages total, three cycles of i bVII, bVI, v in meters ranging from 8/8 to 34/8),

by calling / emailing all (at least the individuals who have not been contacted in the recent past), starting to set up interview times for several (live and phone varieties), making files for all the articles, and doing some basic website research (composer home pages, publishing houses, Wikipedia). Also do the Common Application recommendation form for Amanda Kim.

Pleased that Doug and Susan like the dronic A Walk Through California: Yolo (Bill and Kathy's Last Night) and that Lo left a nice comment re Deploration Passacaglias: Ravel, both posted on Facebook (the later on the Ravelians page). After a late meal with Harriet, make a video for

Diabolic Variations: VI.
