into the early evening, watching Kurt Weill's One Touch of Venus (plus Hurricane Irene news, and calling Bette, George, and Sorrel, to ascertain that all is basically well (a tornado watch comes and goes). Meanwhile upon stepping outside, note smoke to the
south and
southwest, similar to last month.
A fire is
raging on
Cement Hill, so, cannot resist going out to check the situation,
swinging southwest on 80, east on Dickson Hill Road,
taking in the view from
Goodman, then north on
Vanden, west on Alamo, and south on
Peabody.
Somewhere in the tangle of suburbia east of this, there is car trouble. Must leave the vehicle, calling Harriet, agreeing to meet her at Vanden and Newcastle (an easier rendezvous point), setting off on the bike to this destination (awkwardly laden with newspaper, milk, and a coke). The wait is a brief one, though rather lonely, with the alarming passing to the west of a biking cadre in the dark. Harriet's car is packed for the rehearsal tomorrow, so the passenger's seat must be shared with the mercifully collapsible bike, and somehow we arrive home safely.
Somewhere in there, finish re-reading Keith Abbott's Mordecai of Monterey and do the 13th clip for Camino Real: Block 9.
