July 14 - And Again, But New

Finish up the 21st-Century II repertoire, anticipating III (composers born between 1910 and 1930), with

quiz on former (only the last few scholars pictured... hopefully with continuing excellence -- previous one included almost all A's and B's, with around five perfect scores).

The day slightly warmer,

fog not so far inland,

now with the

scenic edge

hugging the

Sulfur Springs Mountains

along the

680 corridor.

Jason stops by to track down paperwork, which is actually still up at the DVC post office, since we do not have the luxury of delivery to our department mailboxes during the summer -- so it seems auspicious to take a campus circuit,

first stopping at the bookstore to order

volumes for the fall piano course

(rather a lot,

taking cues from Bruce Cook's model)...

and thereby having an opportunity to take in the

sights from the second floor of the building

(not known until this point).

From here,

back up to Jason's to get a fuller sense of the who-what-where,

then to the post folder up near administration (where parity resources are still in limbo).

Circling around,

some material is dropped off in Admissions and Records,

other labors to be finished at home,

so homeward it is,

with further stops

for funding,

mailing and video supplies (finishing up the alphabetical-through-the-drama-section at the local library), the latter including

W (2008),

Waiting for the Moon (1987, re Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas),

Walkabout (1971),

Waterloo Bridge (Robert Sherwood, 1930 / 1941),

The Way We Were (1973),

Where Angels Fear to Tread (E.M. Forster, 1905 / 1991)

The Winds of War (Herman Wouk, 1971 / 1983),

World Trade Center (2006), and

Zorba the Greek. (Nikos Kazantzakis, 1946 / 1964).  Also plunge ahead into the musicals section with

Richard Adler's Damn Yankees (1955 / 1958).

Upon examining the required books for the Piano course, discover that the repertoire volume is of exclusively 17th, 18th, and 19th-century composers, the majority little-known -- totally unacceptable for instruction in present-day music... so begin an alternate collection with examples drawn from near the 1st through 21st centuries, and collect/imput 8 pages of an intended set of 32 before the evening's end.

And somewhere in there...
