April 15 - Palm Friday
Wake up to the glories of the
San Bernardinos and head out with
John
through
Yucaipa
and
Redlands to
Augies for coffee.
After a good chat,
proceed, in the comforting 78-degree sun,
east
on 10,
north on Beaumont Avenue to walk from its juncture with
Oak Glen Boulevard,
zig-zagging south to
Orchard,
east
to
Noble,
south
to
Dutton,
east
to
Bellflower,
south
to
Cherry
Valley,
curving
southeast
to
Highland
Springs,
and
thence
southwest
to
its
intersection with Brookside, this all being part of a walk across San Gorgonio pass connecting the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains, as a section of the personal-Pacific-Crest-Trail in Southern California from the San Andreas Fault area north of Liebre Mountain (at the extreme western edge of the Mojave) to the Mexican border.
During the latter part of the junket,
become intrigued by the signs and grounds of the
Highland
Springs Resort,
so check out their
Grand Oak
Bar for an
Einstein,
dealing with the pictures
of the trip thus far.
After
looking
around
the
place
a
bit
more,
back in the car,
scoping out the future route from here, south on Highland Springs Avenue, east on West Wilson,
south on San Gorgonio through Banning to
Lincoln, where the way will continue familiarly south towards Idylwild.
But for now,
back on 10 west,
first to
Jose's,
then
for a nostagic pilgrimage to
Bob's
Big Boy,
in its Calimesan incarnation,
indeed perched viewfully on the plateau,
with prominences all around,
including the San Timoteo Badlands to the south.
Rendezvousing
with
John,
we take in the night at a spot in downtown Redlands, and also San Bernardino's El Torrito for cheerful conversation yet again, retiring late. Prepare third movement of Poems on Crane for posting at IMSLP.
With this, 468 MB (45.79%) of 1024 MB -- up 4 MB from yesterday, with close to 80 pictures, so, again, not unreasonable...
