incredibly sumptuous brunch buffet with Bette, George, and Ann
(re-encountering the Bells); and last views of and
from their residence, on the only pristine blue-sky day of the journey.
So adieu
to
loved ones,
and
into the security mill
and
waiting room
drill (careful to sit in a strategic spot this time within sight and sound of departure goings-on).
We have liftoff over dark-spangly Pennsylvanian vistas,
with sleepy seatmates (what a contrast) and
attentive stewardi.
At last the more concentrated -- yet surrounded by open space -- lights of California.
