June 22 - More
Another day in Music History, with page numbers one entry down,
make-up quizzes,
and the
cooling fog returning,
at least to the Sulfur Springs Mountains.
Errands thereafter,
in preparation for the arrival of
Tisha, Claire, and Amanda. Good to have them here, and also nice (after everyone is settled in for the night) to finish other tasks of the day including
XXI. Finale from Henry Miller in Brooklyn video edit,
finishing Psalm 63 (8 pages total),
Page 34 The Countess Cathleen orchestration,
pdf violin/percussion part for Yellow River Concerto II (Op. 18).

June 20 - Waiting for the Rendition
Beginning of Medieval Music for the Historians, then a convocation of
faculty members in the hall and home for
XV. Suicide and Seduction Song from Henry Miller in Brooklyn edit,
Page 5 of Psalm 63 composition,
32 for The Countess Cathleen orchestration,
pdf of Two and a Half Pieces: III (Op. 17) preparation.
Blasting
off
for
the
City
again,
it's
time for the second
San Francisco Composers Chamber Orchestra rehearsal with
Bill Severson,
John Beeman,
Samuel Ostroff,
Martha Stoddard,
Lisa Scola Prosek, Allan Crossman, and company.
Home
late.
Oh yes, and the temperature hits 100 in the local environs for the first day this year, with the weather actually almost pleasant at Lick-Wilmerding (which is otherwise basically almost always variations on cool/cold/foggy/windy).

June 19 - The Distant Goal
Morning at home (including
XIa. June's Song from Henry Miller in Brooklyn edited as its own video,
Page 4 of Psalm 63 composed,
31 for The Countess Cathleen orchestrated,
pdf of Two and a Half Pieces: II [Op. 17] prepared, and
Some Stuff posted on the International Music Score Library Project)
with Harriet, who leaves mid-day for rehearsal,
following
relatedly mid-afternoon for the
Sierras, to
Emigrant
and
Yuba Gaps,
up
over
Donner
Summit
and
down
the
Canyon
(alarmingly in the fast westbound lanes,
as the eastbound are closed for construction),
right on 89, and again on
Alpine Meadows Road to walk from the
Five Lakes Trailhead to
River Ranch on the Truckee, connecting with last weekend's stroll, part of the thread of hikes from the California Coast to Nevada.
Leaving the snow path,
the route simply retraces the last leg of the drive,
but with the details of a stealthy
coyote;
rows
of
rustic /
opulent,
slope-
rooved,
precariously-
perched,
architecturally-
interesting
contemporary
housing;
the shadowy bridge over
Bear Creek
(what an original name);
vibrant
aspen-
strewn,
vista-beholding,
meadows;
signs
of the
snowy season;
laconic
horses;
and,
in the low
sun, the
hubub near the
junction, where an
ursine juvenal fulfills the role of
homeless wanderer.
Back in the car, with miles to go, the way sweeps upward past deer,
and down from the white slopes into the comforting summer oven of the Central Valley. where night descends like a cooling anvil.
