May 26 - Streaking

Big events for the day are a supply run to the local big box, which is turning into a wonderful option -- in this case groceries and gifts for Crystal's birthday tomorrow --

and further dressing up of the new

Goat Hall Productions YouTube channel, plus composing page 6 of Psalm 57 (variant on King David: IX), The Playboy of the Western World (Op. 111) from PC to Mac via email, doing a pdf of Seasons' Eves (Op. 14): I. Spring (Maundy Thursday), and producing a new video for a second recording of

Oh, yes, and fill out the ASCAPlus Standard Awards application online, which turns out to be an ordeal followed by pleasures.  Re the former, have a trial trying to track down membership number (which, turns out, Harriet has found, but we fail to recognize it), calling ASCAP toll-free number, which leads to a voice-mail maze that ultimately disconnects (three times, in different ways).  Finally, locate the regular number, and in desperation, ask the voice-recognition program for Francis Richard (Director of Concert Music) -- hate to bother her, but can't think of any other folks at the spur of the moment.

From this point, all is well.  Am connected through to Chia Toscanino (Fran's assistant) -- who I recognize, and it is a pleasure to touch base with her.  Then, with help from Ken Cicarle (also a familiar contact), member number is related (which turns out isn't even needed to fill out the online application, but will come in handy in other capacities, re using the ASCAP website).

April 30 - Ready for Anything

Begin composing Psalm 55, reformatting King David: VII. Oh for the Wings of a Dove into Encore from Sibelius, as well as linking another of 12 Fingers pdf's (for a total of 3 thus far -- a quarter of the way done) and receiving Melinda Wagner's final edit of her article, sending it on to Grove.

Then Harriet and I are out the door severally

Philip Glass (leaving the the revised Grove article in his dressing room, at his request), and Eduardo Prado for

recital -- which is surprisingly strong, benefitted by music from Glassworks, The Thin Blue Line, The Screens, Hydrogen Jukebox (with a taped Allen Ginsberg), plus Mad Rush and selections from 16 Etudes and other works.  If their are questions in the spirit of Anton Rubenstein's "Ah, what mistakes!", the experience bears the authenticity akin to Charles Ives's sessons in the recording studio.  The Ensemble covers much, but the lack thereof reveals equally... not least a decided Glassian romanticism with regard to dynamics and tempi.

Afterwards give Eduardo a lift home, in thanks for him informing me of this concert, then spend quite a bit of time on a quiet Hayward

sidestreet trying to figure out how to clear excess recordings and videos from iPhone,

such that more pictures can be taken.

Proceed apace to a funky distict in Alameda,

for Harriet's La Triaviata opening (H is seen here with Raina Simons -- clearly a convocation of wonderful singers!):

and looking forward to taking in the entirety soon.

But for now, it's off home to receive Dan Becker's revised article, sending that and a provisional Glass one to Charles Hiroshi Garrett and Grove Online / The Grove Dictionary of American Music, Second Edition.

Finished.  It's finished.  It must be nearly finished.  Many hours have been spent on the Grove project, and now my tasks in this regard have pretty much concluded.  There will be interviews to transcribe and run in 21st-Century Music, as sequels to the work, but this will be another story.

For now, back to transferring Act IV Mice and Men from PC to Mac, adding another 15 seconds of video to Camino Real: Block 7 (up to 6 minutes), and, oh yes, the Journal...

Alas, up to 484 MB (47.27%) of 1024 MB -- which seems an excessive +3, given only 31 new pics, but whatever...  Further, tomorrow will perhaps wreak more photographic havoc, so will have to take it easy through next Tuesday, which should be possible.

February 27 - Bright Lights for a Birthday

It's Harriet's natal anniversary, and we celebrate over the Academy Awards,

with a Mexican repaste, cake, and ice cream on another beautifully clear but bracing day.  Before this, page 20 composed for Psalm 47 and yet another piano-vocal-leaf-into-orchestration of New Big People Old Trouble So Sunday (26 -- reaching the final selection and changing allegiances from Gershwin to Stravinsky, even importing some beautiful but arguably inappropriate material from the latter -- anything to help a suspect source).  Also do the day's video



(Street Songs: V. Extension Chords), and after, the final draft of the Jim Fox article for Grove American.

February 11 - Heimweh

 
A lot of action in the house (including general clean-up), with

Benji the Therapist and

Anna the Nurse stopping by to check on

Harriet's progress, which is, thankfully, considerable --

reflecting a re-couperative state weeks in advance of norm.

After Harriet is settled in for the afternoon, with Marie on call, make it to 

Marin for standard (somewhat-overdue, what with two recent trips to Nevada) maintenance,

grading Theory Quiz 3's and organizing papers for the Lit class at Chevy's,

return via McGary Road and another quick walk --
