Quiz 6, with examples drawn from Monteverdi, Gesualdo, Schutz, Purcell, Vivaldi, and J.S. Bach.  From here, a beeline home -- musical endeavors of the day (parts for Solar Suite: II, fifth-page pdf for Sinfonietta: II, sixth sheet of Psalm 73 composed), plus dinner and  

Applause (1929) with Harriet.

August 15 - Firsts

First day of the Diablo Valley College Fall 2011 Semester in Music Theory,

and all apparently goes well,

with dictation on first three measures melodic measures of Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra (a first, actually),

on a day as bright as the students,

with seemingly everyone

in rhythm.  In the lab thereafter to record the next five movements of

and seemingly a good time is had by all... it has been a great pleasure to be with these folks four days a week since January...

After lingering with Mona, Michael, and Dave -- head out to a late lunch at

Elephant

Bar, continuing to grade papers for the last meeting of the evening class, making the way musichistoricalogically all the way to present times, and, again, it has been a pleasant situation with these folks since the beginning of the semester, as well.

Stop in briefly to thank Owen and the DVC Philharmonic Orchestra for playing New Big People Old Trouble So Sunday, then make the way home to continue the day's activities, including

composing page 4 of Psalm 57 (a version of King David: IX. Pity!)
